Welcome to the League of Friends

When the Alexandra Hospital opened in 1986, the League of Friends was already established and our volunteers were there to welcome visitors, staff and patients, with a friendly smile and some light refreshments. Since then, the League has grown and now has over 200 members and volunteers.  Our aim is to provide equipment, services and comforts to the patients and staff of the hospital.

We raise funds in a variety of ways; our main sources of income are our very busy and friendly Coffee Shop, situated at the heart of the hospital, and generous and kind donations from the public.  Since those very early days, we have raised several millions of pounds which has meant that we have been able to fund the purchase of items, including some very expensive medical equipment, for the hospital. For more information, please click on the "What We Do" tab at the top of this page.

The League of Friends is managed by a Committee of Trustees, elected to hold office annually and responsible for the day to day activities of the League. The Trustees are also responsible for deciding how the League's funds will be allocated.

With an age range of 18 to 80+, our volunteers willingly give their time to help us achieve our aims. Voluntary activities include helping in the Coffee Shop and arranging the flowers generously donated to the hospital.

Volunteering is not only a way of putting something back into the community, but is also an opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and expand your horizons.
